Cliff Houseprivate house
Cornwall | United Kingdom study project | 2008 Located on top of a high cliff rising above the sea, the Cliff House is designed to enhance the feelings that the landscape arouses into the human being. Cornwall is a land where nature powerfully express itself; where wind, sea and sky merge together showing their uncontested power. The wonderful simplicity of those elements is enhanced by the materials used. Raw concrete is adopted to express the roughness of that land, cor-ten steel is used on the big curved south wall, designed as a shield to underline the importance of protection against elemental forces, as well as to express the eternal fight of mankind against Nature, in which it always prevails. As the outside shell is rough and rude the interiors are comfortable and cosy, allowing the user to relax and contemplate the elemental beauty of that land. |
